Father’s Day local gift guide
Skip the tie this year, your dad doesn’t really want one. If you’re still searching for a gift for that special guy we have a few fun local alternatives.
BIKER DAD
Take your dad to the Lake Raystown area for some fantastic mountain biking on the brand new 30+ mile single track trail system. Make it a family event and hit the lake for a picnic lunch after sweating it out on the roller coaster trails. Before heading out to the trails, make sure dad has all the biking equipment he needs.
HIKER DAD
Did you know some of the state’s best running and hiking trails are in our backyard in Rothrock State Forest? Give dad some space and let him hit the trails alone or with the guys. Have the kids make or decorate a trail map of their own (just be sure to insert a Rothrock State Forest map or Purple Lizard map so that he can find his way home). If dad is in need of some new gear, take a quick trip to Rapid Transit Sports or Haven Shoes for new hiking or running shoes, socks, shorts, and shirts.
SPORTS DAD
If a day on the links isn’t in your budget, delight dad with a trip to State College’s disc golf course (aka Frisbee golf). Make your own certificate and send him out each week for 9-holes of disc golf. It’s fun for the whole family and it’s free to play! And if you’re a household without a set of discs or a Frisbee (gasp!?) stop by Appalachian Outdoors for a new one.
FOODIE DAD
If whipping up interesting (and locally produced, of course) concoctions in the kitchen is his favorite thing to do, pick up a new gadget, cookbook, or cooking utensil from Kitchen Kaboodle.
BOOKWORM DAD
Does dad prefer a good book and cup of coffee above all else (children and wife not included)? If so, grab a Webster’s gift card and kill two birds with one stone.
TECH DAD
Bring Dad’s favorite tunes outdoors with backyard/deck speakers from Paul and Tony’s. They will even install for you. They also install XM and Sirius Satellite radio for your car for dad’s on the go.
ALL DADS
Otto’s pub club membership. Enough said.
Happy Father’s Day!
